Welcome to the third installment of this four-part article series on
the cost of new teeth and how the "All-On-4" substantially undercuts the
costs required for traditional dental implant protocols. In our
previous article posts, we explained how the "All-On-4" only requires
four dental implants per jaw (as opposed to as many as 10) and typically
only a single surgery (as opposed to multiple ones spread out over the
course of 12 to 18 months). Through a much shorter and far less
traumatic journey to oral rehabilitation, patients can benefit from new,
beautiful teeth at much lower costs!
In this article post, the third installment of the series, we shall explore one of the biggest benefits of the "All-On-4" protocol and how this contributes enormously to the lower cost of new teeth while also making it possible for patients to get new teeth in a day.
New Teeth in a Day: Bye Bye Bone Grafting!
Dental implants function similarly to your natural tooth roots and as such, they require a certain volume of bone to be present in order to remain successfully "rooted" in the jaw. The problem with tooth loss is that the bone encasing the root becomes re-absorbed once the tooth is lost, leading to a drop in bone level in the region of the missing tooth. With rampant tooth loss, bone loss occurs along the entire length of the jaw, making it tricky for implant specialists to provide patients with new teeth using dental implants.
The traditional approach to this problem would be to harvest segments of healthy bone tissue from elsewhere in the body and transplant it underneath the gums along the jawbone ridge. This procedure, known as bone grafting, could be used to augment bone volume in the jaw and - with healing - make it possible for patients who were previously not considered candidates to receive dental implants.
The problem with bone grafting is that it's very invasive and as a result, traumatic and uncomfortable for patients to go through. It's also expensive and requires months of healing before the jaw can be subjected to further surgery.
The "All-On-4" Difference... and New Teeth in a Day!
One of the key features of the "All-On-4" is it's ability to avoid the need for bone grafting altogether. Through the strategic placement of only four dental implants in regions of the jaw that naturally contain a greater volume of atrophy resistant bone tissue, implant specialists can garner sufficient support for a fixed dental prosthesis (new set of artificial teeth) almost always without the need for costly bone grafting surgery. By bypassing this additional procedure, the "All-On-4" also makes it possible for patients to get new teeth in a day!
With only four dental implants per jaw, a single surgery and the redundancy of bone grafting, the "All-On-4" is a faster, less traumatic and much cheaper option for fixed oral rehabilitation that has changed the lives of tens of thousands of patients across America.
